Banksy unveils rhino as latest work in animal artwork series
TOM DAVIDSON12 august 2024
The elusive street artist confirmed he was behind the piece by posting a photo on Instagram on Monday.
It shows a rhino mounting a silver Nissan Micra with a traffic cone on its hood to resemble a fellow rhinoceros.
It is the eighth piece of work by Banksy in his animal artwork series, which has entered its second week.
The purpose of the spate of works remains elusive and their locations offers no great clues as to the artist’s motives.
It began last Monday in Richmond with a goat appeared balancing on a pillar with rocks falling off at Kew Green.
The next day two elephants appeared on Edith Terrace in Chelsea, followed by three monkeys swinging across a London Overground bridge on Brick Lane.
Unfortunately a howling wolf sprayed onto a satellite dish on Rye Lane in Peckham was stolen within hours of being confirmed by Banksy.
Two pelicans eating fish were spotted atop the sign of Bonners Fish Bar in Walthamstow on Friday morning.
A stretching cat was spotted on a dilapidated billboard on Edgware Road in Cricklewood on Saturday and on Sunday a City of London police box on Ludgate Hill had been covered with fish.
More to follow.
