8 Things You Never Knew About Rolling Stones’ Mick Jagger
Mick Jagger might be one of the most famous rock stars in the world, known for his incredible talent as the lead singer for the Rolling Stones and for having eight children throughout his many relationships. Jagger has also proved that age is just a number as he continues to rock out at 80 years old! While Jagger may be one of the most popular singers in the world, it wasn’t always in his plan. Find out what he actually wanted to do before he became a musician and some other fun facts about Jagger for his birthday on July 26th.
He wanted to be a journalist
When he was younger, he studied English, art history, Latin, and French at the London School of Economics and was studying to be a political journalist. He was also on the editorial board for the student newspaper called The Beaver. Ultimately, he loved music and decided to move forward with a music career instead of a journalism one and it seems to have worked out for the best for him. Yet, this proves that he definitely has the brains too!
He almost started a record label with Paul McCartney
Can you imagine singing for two of the greatest rock stars in the world? Reportedly, Jagger and McCartney were toying around the idea of starting their own record label at one time. However, the Beatles eventually partnered with Capitol Records and launched their own record label called Apple Records instead.
He almost appeared in ‘A Clockwork Orange’
Before becoming a big star, he was dabbling with acting roles and was cast as Alex in A Clockwork Orange after director Stanley Kubrick saw him on a popular music show called Ready Steady Go. Jagger ended up turning down the role because he didn’t want to play a violent person. Even though he denied this role, he did play a villain in the 1992 film Freejack as Victor Vacendak (see above photo). The film also stars Emilio Estevez and Anthony Hopkins.
Mick Jagger loves ballet
He reportedly attends ballet classes and has been seen watching the ballet. He is currently dating former ballerina Melanie Hamrick.
He has several important titles
In 1996, he was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire. He has also been accepted into knighthood and is now Sir Michael Philip Jagger (yes, his real name is Michael!).
Some say he has been involved with over 4,000 women
It is no surprise to fans that Jagger loves women and has had a ton of relationships and has many children. Despite a few long-term relationships, including one with Jerry Hall (see above photo) some estimate that he has been with over 4,000 women.
He got his first guitar at 14 years old
Then, he taught himself how to play basic chords after being inspired by Pete Seeger. The rest is history.
Jagger’s younger brother is also a musician
While not as well known, his brother Chris Jagger was once a professional athlete and later became a musician. He was a part of the band Maggots Brannagan, who performed one of the very first rock operas.
Happy birthday, Mick!
