Capturing Venice: Lucy Truman’s Inspired Travel Journal Series

Illustrator Lucy Truman recently shared Part Two of her travel journal series, this time taking us along the historic canals of Venice, Italy. Working on-location to capture the city’s soft architectural tones and shifting light, Lucy uses these spontaneous sketches as a vital foundation for her finished editorial and narrative illustrations. 

“Drawing on location is something I enjoy because interactions occur which lead to unexpected ideas and developments in the drawings! Visual note-taking allows me to build and feed into my editorial, publishing, and hospitality focused illustration projects, with a strong emphasis on atmosphere and sense of place.” 

Tapping into the traveler’s experience, Lucy is able to translate the myriad impressions and discoveries into beautiful moments in time—a true snapshot of inspired artistry and historic appreciation.

BIOGRAPHY 

Lucy Truman is an international illustrator. Her specialism lies within portrait, lifestyle and fashion. She has worked for many clients including, Ralph Lauren, LVMH, Vanity Fair and American Girl, to name but a few. Lucy is also prevalent in the children's illustration market, working with clients such as Penguin Random House and  Candlewick Press. Her work is listed in the New York Times Bestsellers with the successful Unicorn Academy series, written by Julie Sykes, published by Nosy Crow (UK) and Penguin (USA).
