We celebrate illustration titan Brad Holland, a bastion of true human creativity and resilience. A self-taught visionary, Brad reshaped the landscape of modern visual commentary through his personal experiences and depth of thought. He insisted on painting his own ideas, single-handedly pioneering a fiercely intellectual and metaphoric approach to editorial art.

To honor his extraordinary life and career, SVA Galleries, in partnership with BFA Comics, BFA Illustration and the Norman Rockwell Museum, presents Brad Holland: Making It Personal.  The exhibition offers a rare, intimate look at his vast body of work—from powerful political commentary and haunting pastels to his personal painting palettes and studio easels. Open now through September 19, the show gives art lovers an opportunity to experience the depth, nuance, and uncompromising spirit of Holland’s genius in person.

In addition, a special panel discussion celebrating Holland’s work will take place on Thursday, September 17, at 6:45 PM at the SVA Amphitheater. This not-to-be-missed event will feature close friends, collaborators, and scholars exploring how Holland redefined editorial illustration by prioritizing original thought over mere execution.
