The novel was even described by Vogue as ‘Half Sally Rooney love triangle, half glitzy Crazy Rich Asian high-living and guaranteed to please’.

So it was no surprise when it was announced that Naoise was in talks to sign a television adaption deal of her debut novel.

Over the weekend, Naoise took to Twitter to confirm that she had just signed the TV options for Exciting Times.

Sharing a snap of the paperwork, she tweeted: ‘Just signed the actual contract for TV option, and feeling unwarrantedly cool’.

We’ll have to wait a good while to see Ava, Julian and Edith on screen but we’re very excited about it!

Exciting Times follows Ava who has just arrived in Hong Kong from Dublin, to teach English to rich children. She meets English banker Julian, who likes to spend money on her, have sex and discuss fluctuating currencies.

Eventually, Ava realises she wants more, and while Julian is travelling for business, Ava meets a lawyer named Edith who is refreshingly enthusiastic and unapologetically earnest.

However, when Julian writes to tell Ava he is coming back to Hong Kong Ava is thrown into a tailspin.
