Alla Kostromicheva
The 5'11" Ukranian model made her debut on the runways in March 2008 and quickly rose to top during the fall 2009 shows, with bookings at Alexander Wang, Calvin Klein, and Donna Karan in New York, and Balenciaga, Louis Vuitton, and Valentino in Paris. Her editorial cred is growing, too, with whisperings of an upcoming Steven Meisel Italian Vogueshoot circulating in the industry. Alla’s serious looks have made her a favorite of the artier set: She's got a V story by David Sims, editorials in A Magazine, Tokion, 10 Magazine, and Plastique under her belt. After shooting her for Plastique, photographer Steve Hiett raved, saying that Alla has the two of the most important traits of a model: “She moves amazingly well and she is utterly enthusiastic.”

David Agbodji
It's pretty hard for black models to book runway jobs, much to everyone's dismay. So, when David Agbodji opened and closed the spring 2010 Calvin Klein menswear show, he became the first black male model to do that, ever. The Parisian is pretty new to the biz, but that didn't hold him back in booking two spreads in GQ Style's spring issue. And from what we hear, he just booked a very major campaign that will make that stunning face of his known everywhere. Could it be that star-marking Calvin campaign?

Jac
When Jac (born Monika Jagaciak), landed several magazine covers and an Hermès campaign at just 13 years old, controversy erupted over her age. She weathered the storm, however, and two years later, despite having to skip Paris shows owing to age restrictions, Jac had an impressive fall season. She opened and closed for Calvin Klein, and walked at Hervé Léger, Donna Karan, Marc Jacobs, and more in New York, and at Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, Fendi (the list goes on) in Milan. Jac is now the new face of Calvin Klein, and Francisco Costa raves, “She possesses a timeless beauty that gives her the ability to be highly versatile, making her one of the most promising new models today.” With praise like that, we’ll be interested to see if Jac lands the exclusive Calvin Klein contract.

Julia Hafstrom
The fashion industry loves a good redhead. Like Karen Elson and Lily Cole before her, the Swedish Julia Hafstrom is the latest to make waves. With nary a single fall runway appearance, she somehow managed to book the fall Prada campaign, alongside fellow face to watch Kendra Spears. Naturally, the 17-year-old came stalking out at Prada's resort show in June, marking her runway debut. And, the pouty, freckle-faced teen already booked her first major cover for the August issue of Dazed & Confused, photographed by Terry Tsiolis. Expect to see her at Marc Jacobs.

Karolin Wolter
Amid a sea of soft-featured Eastern Europeans, Karolin Walter’s striking, almost severe, features and piercing blue eyes stand out. The 18-year-old German debuted on the runways this season, but her editorial career began last year, with features in Wonderland and Chinese Vogue. This past winter, Karolin made a splash in New York, walking at Alexander Wang and Marc Jacobs; she also walked a slew of shows in Europe. The icy beauty opened the Jil Sander show in Milan, impressive for any model’s first season. Designer Alexander Wang said, “It's always exciting to see a new girl who can bring presence and show stamina. It usually takes models a couple of seasons to develop that, but with Karolin, it was really instant.” Recent editorials in Bazaar and Numéro speak to Wolter’s sophisticated beauty, a wide-ranging appeal that may make her this season’s chameleon.

Kendra Spears
One of last season’s biggest breakout stars was Kendra Spears, a 21-year-old Seattle native who landed the coveted fall 2009 Prada campaign. She also stormed the fall runways, walking in 32 shows, a whopping 17 of which were for heavy-hitters in Paris (including Chanel, Givenchy, Miu Miu, YSL, Louis Vuitton, Nina Ricci, and Lanvin). In the past year, Spears has booked editorials with Lachlan Bailey, Sebastian Kim, and appeared on the July cover of Dazed & Confused. Of his shoot with Kendra for Chinese Vogue, Bailey says, "It's not often you look through the lens and see that level of natural beauty. Kendra is a star in the making." After a lawsuit involving her quick departure from Ford to Next, Spears is bouncing back nicely: She’s just wrapped a shoot for French Elle and is lining up shows for next week

Marcel Castenmiller
Marcel Castenmiller has a talent most models would kill for: He makes photographers fall for him. Ryan McGinley certainly is smitten with the Edmonton-born model. "Marcel runs free and is not self-conscious. He understands what a photographer wants, gives you that and always offers you something you would never expect. It's like a dream working with him; it's a real collaboration," said McGinley. Other designers and photographers are catching on: Daniel Jackson, Mario Sorrenti, and Steven Meisel have all worked with the lithe, six foot two model this year. And in his first menswear Fashion Week this past June, Castenmiller walked for Gucci in Milan and Hermès in Paris. We bet he'll pop up at one of the many men's shows next week.

Nate Gill
Modeling for Abercrombie & Fitch might not be the highest-end job for a model, but it's helped launched many careers. Such is the case with 20-year-old Nate Gill. After working with Bruce Weber for the brand last year, he's gone on to become one of modeling's top faces. Starting with his exclusive runway turn down Calvin Klein's fall 2009 catwalk, followed by yet another exclusive for Givenchy in Paris, the San Francisco native was the boy most wanted. He's become an editorial favorite at GQ and modeled for the DKNY Jeans fall ad campaign making rounds in magazines now.

R'el Dade
Newcomer R'el Dade got her start when she became a finalist in the Kim Dawson Model Search in 2005. Ali Michael might have taken home that prize, but with a face as beautiful as Dade's, her breakthrough was inevitable. After signing with the Marilyn Agency early this year, she booked editorials at Numéro and Interview. Casting directors immediately began raving about her natural poise and elegance. Wayne Sterling, editorial director at Models.com, enthused, "Beyond having an amazing spirit of freshness, this girl boasts the best body I've seen on a newcomer in years." And she walked the fall Valentino couture show as an exclusive, so expect to see her at some of the larger shows this season, and at Valentino again, natch.

Tao Okamoto
Tao started hitting the big time when her freshly chopped bowl cut prompted matching wigs at the 3.1 phillip lim runway show this past winter. The Japanese model opened and closed that show, and walked at Miu Miu, where there hasn’t been an Asian model walking since fall 2007. Having cited Tao as his muse, Lim said, “Tao is beautiful in a way that is elegant and a little rebellious. She showed that short hair can be beautiful — it had a strength to it and was very modern.” Just after shows ended, Ralph Lauren printed collection ads that featured Tao in runway stills, and Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin shot her for a French Vogue editorial for the August issue. She'll be a go-to girl this Fashion Week for every major designer.
