Commandeur
de l’Ordre national du Mérite
On September 16th 2014, Tomi Ungerer was awarded one of the highest honours in France: Commandeur de l’Ordre national du Mérite. The prize was presented to him by the French president, Francois Hollande, at the Elysée Palace. It was given to him in recognition of his lifelong efforts to fight prejudice by artistic and political means, in particular, in recognition of his work for Franco-German friendship.

Tomi was in interesting and diverse company to say the least! The others who received prizes alongside him are included here along with the official photographs of the event.
