What has been the most challenging aspect of modeling for you, and how did you overcome it? What did you learn about yourself through the process?
Daphne: I began my career at a very young age, which made the early days of modeling particularly challenging. Initially, I found it difficult not to take rejections personally. Over time, I learned the importance of not internalizing these rejections. I’ve understood that my unique beauty may not appeal to everyone. I’ve also realized the significance of not comparing myself to others. Each person’s journey is distinct and should be embraced.
Fashion modeling can be as demanding mentally as it is physically. How do you maintain your mental health and well-being in such a high-pressure industry?
Daphne: Maintaining well-being in the high-pressure environment of fashion modeling is crucial. For me, it’s vital to lead a normal life outside of my work commitments. I prioritize spending time with friends and family, engaging in activities I love, and ensuring I take moments for myself. Interestingly, flying for work has become a form of relaxation for me. During flights, I make it a point not to use WiFi as it tends to distract me. Instead, I use this time to catch up on sleep, watch movies guilt-free, and focus on Lost Labels, my online vintage platform.
The fashion industry often deals with stereotypes. Have you faced any, and how did you challenge or overcome them?
Daphne: Everyone is entitled to their opinions about the fashion industry, but it’s important to acknowledge the hard work it entails. This includes traveling globally, managing jet lag, enduring long days on set, and maintaining both physical and mental well-being. As I’ve matured, I’ve learned to accept myself more fully, which has helped diminish the impact of these stereotypes on me.
What’s something people would be surprised to learn about the life of a fashion model? Any common misconceptions you’d like to address?
Daphne: Many might be surprised to learn just how demanding the life of a fashion model can be. It’s often difficult to convey the challenges of constantly jumping from plane to plane across different time zones. However, the rewards are significant. We meet incredibly talented and creative individuals in the fashion industry. Every photoshoot is unique, allowing us to collaborate with people from all over the world. Like any other profession, there are days when you’re not fully into it, but I count my blessings daily and feel incredibly grateful to be part of this industry.
