Ridley Scott has confirmed that he will be making three more Prometheus films before linking back to the original Alien.
The British director, who is promoting new Matt Damon film The Martian, has hinted that there could me as many as three more films in the franchise.
Speaking to German site FilmFutter about when he planned on connecting Prometheus with Alien, he said:
“It won’t be in the next one. It will be in the one after this one or maybe even a fourth film before we get back into the Alien franchise.”

He added: “The whole point of it is to explain the Alien franchise and to explain the how and why of the creation of the Alien itself.
“I always thought of the Alien as kind of a piece of bacterial warfare.
“I always thought that that original ship, which I call the Croissant, was a battleship, holding these biomechanoid creatures that were all about destruction.”

Scott is also collaborating with South African director Neill Blomkamp on a brand new film in the Alien franchise, which seems to be completely separate to Prometheus.
Prometheus 2, which will star Michael Fassbender, is due to start filming next February and be released in 2017.
